Rehnquist-Watch continues

Robert Novak reports today (7/7) on "word from court sources that ailing Chief Justice William Rehnquist also will announce his retirement before the week is over." In case no one has noticed, the week is very nearly over. Novak is despondent that Bush's recent statements indicate his intention to nominate Alberto Gonzalez to the Court. I can't help hoping that he does, if only because it will make conservatives unhappy. Although I've been wishy-washy on this question, I think it more likely that AG² will get a nom if Bush has two to handle this summer.
